Ledgent Accounting & Finance has partnered with a growing engineering company and is actively seeking a Project Accountant to join their team! The Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of multiple construction projects from start to finish. This role ensures accurate job cost tracking, billing, change order management, and compliance with GAAP and company policies.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong construction accounting experience who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Set up and maintain project financials, ensuring accurate cost codes and budget tracking for all project expenses (labor, materials, overhead, etc.).
  • Monitor budgets, job costs, and change orders, providing accurate cost-to-complete estimates and financial forecasts.
  • Prepare and process AIA progress billings, time and materials (T&M) invoices, and ensure timely collection of receivables and retention balances.
  • Validate and process subcontractor payments, including compliance documentation such as lien waivers and insurance certificates.
  • Reconcile project costs, labor, and revenue, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and supporting month-end close, WIP schedules, and profitability reporting.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for contracts, change orders, billing schedules, and other financial records, supporting audits and internal controls.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 10+ years in accounting, with 5+ years in construction accounting or project accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher education, strongly preferred.
